Activity One: Qualities of an effective and inclusive Leader


Please have your pre-work, the Inclusive Leader Personal RAG Rating Worksheet and the Reflective Questionnaire for Inclusive Leaders available for this first breakout activity.


 Instructions

  • The person born earliest in the year will be the facilitator
  • The facilitator will decide on a speaker who will feedback to the whole group, when we return to the Main Room. If you would rather not be the speaker, please choose another colleague.
  • Avoid specific reference to names when using examples
  • Please make sure that all voices are heard

 

 Your facilitator will guide you through each of the following questions:


  1. What is inclusive leadership and why is it important?

2. Are we getting it right?

3. Is there more that could be done?


Activity Two: Subtle acts of exclusion (Micro-aggressions)


Instructions

  • The facilitator for this discussion will be the person who most recently joined the Council.
  • Guide your team through a discussion about the hidden messages and impact of the 3 Micro-aggression examples below.
  • A speaker isn't needed for this activity.

  • The facilitator will decide on a speaker who will feedback to the whole group, when we return to the Main Room. If you would rather not be the speaker, please choose another colleague.

Your facilitator will guide you through each of the following questions:


  1. How would you define the terms bullying and harassment?

2. How do these terms differ? What does the law say?

3. Are we adequately equipped to respond effectively to instances of bullying or harassment? Are we getting it right?

4. Is there more that could be done?


Activity Four: What can we do better?


Develop an awareness of what individual Councillors and the Council can do to prevent and tackle bullying and harassment.

 

Share ways in which we can improve our interactions with officers

  • Facilitate an open discussion on the questions below.

2. What can the Council can do to prevent and tackle bullying and harassment?

3. Are there ways in which we can improve our interactions with Officers?
